About The House
A “Home Away From Home”
The best medicine for a child is having mom and dad at their side. As the only facility of its kind in Las Vegas, the Ronald McDonald House makes this possible by enabling families to be within moments of their child’s hospital bedside.
The Ronald McDonald House offers a comfortable, caring environment where families can share stories and experiences with each other, helping to relieve feelings of isolation and helplessness. The staff and volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House aim to meet guests’ daily needs so that families are able to focus on their child’s recovery. Some of these guest services include transportation; providing clothing and personal items; assistance finding counseling, memorial or legal services; and providing communication resources so that families can stay in touch with friends and family and conduct business while away from home.
Since opening in July of 1998, the House has served 3,116 families for a total of 31,135 nights. In 2010, the average length of stay was 8 days, and the House saved families over $197,538.00 in lodging costs (based on 2010 average lodging rates in Las Vegas).
The Las Vegas House is three stories, over 12,000 square feet, and was specifically designed to accommodate up to 12 families at one time. Each of the 12 guest rooms includes a private bathroom with shower, two double beds, linens and a telephone. Extra linens and fold-away beds are availab
We have everything you’d expect to find in a home, including food, hygiene items, cleaning supplies, and more. Each family is given refrigerator and pantry space to store their own food they choose to do their own grocery shopping, , and the laundry facilities are free and fully stocked with detergent and fabric softener. In addition to our fully stocked pantry and refrigerators, local community groups and organizations often prepare home cooked meals for our families. Families will also find shelves filled with books, games, and movies, a playroom full of toys and a patio full of fresh air and sunshine!
We like to consider all of our guests as family, and ask that they help keep the House neat and clean during their stay. This includes cleaning their rooms and bathrooms, and helping with the daily household chores.
The House is staffed full time, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. We also have a dedicated group of volunteers that help keep the House clean and provide our families with home-cooked dinners, baked goods, toys, and holiday items.
